1) 1. I will be defining the word poetry.
2.Poetry is imaginative or creative literature written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts.
3.I am defining this word because I write poetry and it is something very important to me. I use poetry to express my feelings.
4.The purpose of this paper is to define what the word poetry means to me. Also, to give other definitons people view poetry.
5.I will be writing to those who are interested in poetry or creative writing.
Alright, so this isn't a bad idea but I'm not sure how the paper would shape up. First of all, the exigence is not clear: why are you writing a paper about poetry? Its great that you love poetry and use it but why write a paper about it? Is it because people don't appreciate it or because people don't know what it is or some other reason? Is the word poetry contested so that it needs to be defined? Are you trying to make some larger social point with this...say about the power of poetry or the loss of the poetic in society? Or maybe you want to do something more personal in that, in a memoir-ish way, your defining of poetry will reveal something about you and your views on life.
ReplyDeleteIn line with this, think about your audience some more. Do you really want to write to an audience who already values poetry? If that is the case then this might be a different paper. For example, there are always debates about what qualifies as poetry among poets (Google flarf or conceptual poetry to see the latest of these). Now this would be the sort of essay that might work for those interested in poetry or creative writing. Otherwise, if you're talking about how people don't know about poetry or value poetry...you're audience would be for those who don't know or value poetry.
Think about all this and comment below with some clarifications.
